The Gospel

Lesson Reading

Everything else rests on this. So we say it plainly.

God made you. He made you to know him and to give him glory. That is not a burden. It is the thing you were built for.

But you, and every person who has ever lived, turned away. We wanted to be our own gods. The Bible calls that sin, and sin earns death and separation from God. That is the honest diagnosis, and you have felt it.

God did not leave us there. He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, to live the life we failed to live and to die the death we deserved to die. On the cross Jesus took the punishment for sin. Three days later he rose from the dead, defeating death itself.

Here is the offer. Turn from your sin. Trust Christ alone to save you. When you do, God forgives you completely, counts Christ's righteousness as yours, and makes you his own child forever.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

That is the gospel. If it stirs something in you, say so to the pastor, or to whoever invited you to Mayflower. That conversation is the most important one you can have.
