New Life: Study Your Bible
Lesson Reading
Study Your Bible
The Bible is God's Word to you. It is not just a book about God. It is the way God speaks to His people. If you want to know Him, grow in Him, and hear from Him, this is where you go.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16)
Why can you trust it? Because it comes from God Himself. He breathed it out through human writers, and what they wrote is exactly what He meant to say. It is true, it has no errors, it is enough for everything you need to know about faith and life, and it is clear enough that an ordinary believer with the Spirit's help can understand it. You do not need a priest to read it for you. You need a Bible and a willing heart.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)
So how do you start? Here is the simplest plan we can give you.
-
Start with the Gospel of John. It was written so that you would believe in Jesus and have life in His name. It is the best place for a new believer to begin.
-
Read a little each day rather than a lot once in a while. Even ten minutes builds a habit.
-
Read slowly. Ask three questions: What does this say about God? What does this say about me? What does this call me to do?
-
Pray before you read. Ask God to open your eyes to see Him in His Word.
You will not understand everything at first. That is fine. Keep going. The Spirit teaches over time, and the church helps. Bring your questions to your discussion group and to a pastor.
Begin today. Open John chapter 1, and start reading.
